THE PASSING OF A LEGEND

Albert J. Carey Jr., a pioneer of the LGBT community and a true New Orleans original, passed away on
January 2, 2026, at the age of 86.

A devoted and beloved member of the Krewe of Armeinius, Albert served with distinction as Captain, King, and Queen, and was a paramount force in shaping the Krewe's survival, spirit, and direction. An accomplished architect, he was also a brilliant storyteller and historian, a sharp and generous mind to all who had the supreme honor of knowing him.

He passed surrounded by love, with his cherished sister, Patty Carey, by his side.
